AS part of efforts to promote the reading and writing culture of Nigerians, the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), a non-profit organisation, sponsored by the Pat Utomi Legacy Foundation, has organised a yearly book prize award of N1 million for writers in the country.
This act, according to Prof. Pat Utomi, is to help and encourage writers in Nigeria. The write-up could be in poetry, drama or prose form but must be about Nigeria or Nigerians. It must also be based in Nigeria.
An award of a complete desktop Zinox Computer system also awaits the winner of the book prize. Participants are expected to submit 10 copies of their works either in hard-cover or soft-cover on or before Friday, October 15, 2004.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Lagos Business School, Ajah, Utomi said the move was prompted by the need to encourage people who, according to him, lack sponsors.
The CVL is a fee-paying membership club that caters for the leadership needs of undergraduates and young professionals between the ages of 18 to 35, with members having full access to the CVL library and opportunities to rub minds with other young adults.
The Executive Director of the CVL, Pamela Egbo, stated that the programme is aimed at equipping young people to lead with values such as integrity, honesty, trust, excellence which will bring lasting results both in personal and professional development.
The organisation which was officially launched on March 10, 2004, was inspired by the need to bridge the gap between knowledge and results in the society by empowering young people with leadership skills and values to enable them make lasting contributions in entrepreneurship, business, civil society and public life.
According to Egbo, CVL aims at taking an inside-out approach by focusing on those values that can make people get value-driven leaders.
