'Why W/African Gas Pipeline is Yet to Take-off' From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja The continued delay in the take-off of the multi-million dollar gas of West African Gas Pipeline Project (WAGPP) utilisation project has been attributed to the abscence of the required gas reception facilities in most of the partner countries of the sub-region. This has affected the drive to agree on various proposals for the execution of the project and to make such details available to the World Bank. Explaining the reason for the delay of the project, three months behind the deadline for the signing of the Final Investment Decision (FID), Special Adsiver to the President on Petroleum and Energy, Dr. Edmund Daukoru, said most of the parties to the project are currently engrossed in one reformation or the other which is directed at laying a proper foundation for a more viable gas sector. He gave an instance with Ghana, which is in the process of putting its intrastrutures right in preparedness for the take-off of the gas supply network. Daukoru noted that the process leading to the signing of FID on such projects involved a complex procedures which in the case of the World Bank would require a 60 days notice before the world body will grant its consideration.
