Community Accuses Mantu of Dam Project Diversion From George Oji and Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja The people of Mwaghavul community in Mangu Local Government area of Plateau State have accused Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, of using his office to deprive the community of the Federal Government's dam project. But Mantu, in a swift reaction, dismissed the allegations as michievous and funny. Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, Chief (Capt.) J. M. Din (rtd) Chairman, Special Mwaghavul Committee on Mnagu Regional Water Project, said the dam project meant to supply water to Mangu town and its environs and fashioned in line with Nigeria's three megadams namely; Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro was hijacked by Mantu for his village and the scale of the project fraudulently scaled down to serve Mantu's selfish interest. "Furthermore, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources under the influence of Senator Mantu deliberately scaled down the projected population of the area to benefit from the project, namely Mangu, Panyam and Gindiri and environs to be 50,800 in the year 2025 whereas the actual projected population of these areas by the Mangu Local Government area was projected at 268,430 as at 1995 and would increase to 614,646 in 2025," the community alleged. In a reaction, Mantu said contrary to the allegations, "Langai is not my village. My village is Chanso. This people are from the same local government with me.
