Okija: Egwu Indicts Security Agencies
By Joseph Ushigiale

As more revelations continue to emerge from Okija shrines with accusing fingers being pointed indiscriminately in different directions, Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State has laid the blame for the Okija shrine debacle on the law enforcement agencies in the Anambra State for their complacent attitude and inability to expose the shrines and track down the operators for prosecution.

Egwu, whose reaction came yesterday expressed surprise that in spite of the huge resources committed by the three tiers of government towards the provision of adequate security for the citizenry, the security agencies in Anambra State were unable to detect such a heinous crime perpetrated by some evil people in society.

"It is highly embarrassing that in spite of the immense resources committed by the various levels of government even in Anambra State, such shrines would operate undetected under their noses for so long in the state," he pointed out.

Egwu wondered why the security agencies would have to wait until an informant provided clues for them to swing into action, adding that the security agencies should have detected Okija shrines and their evil ways if their information gathering mechanism reliably effective.

"It is ridiculous that the security agencies would have to wait until an informant provides clues for them to know that shrines exist in Okija, and evil acts are being perpetrated unabated within the state," he noted.

According to him, "what this has gone to portray is that, the information gathering apparatus of the police is ineffective, If that is the case, how can they guarantee the safety of life and property of the citizenry?"
