Group Urges Ararume to Contest Imo Governorship By Joseph Ushigiale A political pressure group, the Senator Ararume Solidarity Forum, (SASFO), is mounting pressure on Senator Ifeanyi Ararume to join the 2007 governorship contest, and also ensure that Okigwe senatorial zone produces a successor to Governor Achike Udenwa. In a statement issued in Lagos and signed by Chief C. Ehirim, SASFO said its main "aim is to convince Senator Ararume to answer to a clarion call. Someone with very dynamic and sterling qualities like Ararume is needed to build on the foundations laid by Udenwa. "We are, therefore, convinced that Ararume will put his international and national connections to use and bring development to Imo State." On the issue of marginalisation, SASFO said "our state stands on a tripod of three zones, Okigwe, Owerri and Orlu. Since the creation of Imo State, two zones, Orlu and Owerri, have consistently dominated the states political terrain." According to the group, "all ministerial slots in Imo either go to Orlu or Owerri. The late Sam Mbakwe from Okigwe zone was the governor when the present Abia and Ebonyi states were Imo State. Since then, Okigwe has not produced a governor, and no developmental project is located in Okigwe." It said, "political appointments in the state are always done to the disadvantage of Okigwe zone. Our forum is therefore of the opinion that for equity and fairplay, Okigwe zone should produce the governor in 2007."
