Bonnke Expected, Amidst Tight Security From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Plain clothed security operatives comprising police detectives and men of the SSS were on Sunday noticed at the proposed crusade ground of itinerant televangelist, Reinhard Bonnke, at Budo Efo, in Ganmo, an outskirt of Ilorin. Deployment of the operatives to the crusade ground may not be unconnected with weekend protest of some Muslim youth who are unhappy about the second coming of the mega evangelist to the state, the second time in 14 years. However, a statement signed by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Salihu, on behalf of the Committee on Matters affecting Islamic Religion in Kwara State expressed reservations at the actions of the youth and denied knowledge of the action. The Islamic leader condemned the demonstration, and pointed out that their actions were antithetical to the preachings of Islam. The youth, under the banner of "Kwara Muslim Youth" had assembled at the Eid praying ground in Ilorin, and headed towards Kwara State Government House to protest against the visit of Bonnke, who was billed to stage a five-day "Great Gospel Campaign" at Budo-Efo, a village in the outskirts of Ilorin, between Wednesday and Sunday. The protest was halted by mobile policemen who fired several canisters of tear gas to disperse them at Wahab Folawiyo Road, Ilorin." They later re-assembled and headed to the palace of the Emir , Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, who reportedly rebuffed them.
