NLC, Army Chief Praise NDDC On the heels of President Obasanjo's commendation of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, last weekend, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the oil-producing states, has lauded the achievements of the Commission. The Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the NLC, Comrade Udo Kerian Akpan, who led a delegation of his counterparts from other NDDC member-states, said that the congress was impressed by the able and systematic way the Commission was bringing development to all parts of the Niger Delta region. He said that it took them almost four years to pay their first visit to the NDDC because "we did not want to join the bandwagon of those who were coming to congratulate you on your appointment because of our experience with the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) and other previous intervention agencies. Now that we have seen the impressive work that NDDC is doing to transform the Niger Delta region, we have come to say thank you." He said that the NLC has a tradition of identifying with successful organizations hence it has decided to come and celebrate the success of the NDDC. Comrade Akpan requested that NDDC should collaborate with his congress, which has tentacles in all parts of the Niger Delta, to check youth restiveness in the region. "We have structures at the grassroots which we can use to enlighten the youths and even the elders to eschew restiveness and allow peace to reign in our region" he explained. Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Rafiu Adesina, has pledge to provide the Commission with the enabling environment to continue its good works. Adesina was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of the NDDC, Hon. Emmanuel Aguariavwodo. "We in the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army appreciate the significant role you are playing in the overall development and stability of Nigeria. We commend your effort and came here to identify with you and to assure you that we will provide the enabling environment to you to function".
