Oba Adedeji Gets Staff of Office

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, weekend, presented the staff of office to Oba Michael Gbadebo Adedeji, the new Owa-Ooye of Okemesi - Ekiti, in Ekiti West Local Government Area.

Oba Adedeji, who is from Larugba ruling house, was recently selected to fill the vacant stool of Owa-Ooye following the demise of Oba Edward two years ago.

Having concluded all formalities and traditional rites for such selection, the new Owa-Ooye was presented two weeks ago as the candidate to the state's executive council which ratified his appointment in line with the Chief Edict of 1984 and the customary law regulating the selection of traditional ruler of the audience town.

Fayose appealed to the people to give maximum support to the new Owa-Ooye for rapid development of the town which had been without a traditional ruler in the past two years.

He thanked the Kingmakers for selecting the new Owa-Ooye without giving room for unnecessary rancour and bickering among the indigenes.

The chairman of Ekiti West Local Government, Chief Adebayo Adeosun, who is also a native of the town, described Okemesi as a historical town which produced the famous warrior-"Fabunmi" who championed the Ekiti Parapo War (also known as Kiriji War) about 115 years ago.

He appealed to government to pay urgent attention to the road linking Okemesi with Ita-Awure which is dilapidated, the one linking the town with Esa-Oke, a neighburing town in Osun State.

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Police Command has declared the recent installation of Prince Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, as the new Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, as illegal. Security men are still on the trail of the new monarch.

Five King makers arrested over the illegal installation have been arraigned before a magistrates court for breach of peace.

The new Olojudo, contrary to court ruling, was installed a couple of days ago as successor to late Oba Adeyemi Olayisade II, who passed on in the year 2000.

The related development, the Attah of Ayede Ekiti, Oba Adelaye Orisagbemi who was arrested by security agents in his palace last Wednesday has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court.

The traditional ruler who was charged for "declaring war" against the chief and Ayede Ekiti natives, was accused of committing an offence contrary to section 42 of the criminal code.

Oba Orisagbemi, who was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties, according to investigation, was arrested on the orders of states security since for allegedly inviting members of the OPC to the town traditional festival which led to a major fracas between some youths and has supporters for three days in the town.

The embattled traditional ruler had filed a notice of Appeal, at the supreme Court, Abuja against the judgement of court of Appeal in Ilorin which nullified his appointment as traditional ruler of the town after more than 10 years on the throne.
