SON Embarks on New Enlightenment Initiative
A new initiative aimed at minimizing dumping and defocus importers of electronics and electrical products to pay more attention to quality has been unveiled in Lagos.
The project is a collaboration effort between same private organisations and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) the Nation's Quality Regulatory Organ.
In a release in Lagos and signed by Chidiegwu A. Njoku, Managing Director of SASCOM, one of the private consultants involved in the collaboration said the event is tagged Lunch Chat with SON and is billed to take place at Lake Leisureworld Trade Fair complex, Lagos.
Enumerating on the benefits of the Lunch Chat, Njoku said the interactive session will afford importers, particularly brand representatives the opportunity to relate with the officials of Standards organisation of Nigeria who shall be led by the director General, Mr. John Akanya in a convivial atmosphere. Brand representatives he said shall be free to ask questions pertaining to product registration quality certification and quality enforcement.
SON will use the forum to enlighten the brand representatives on the essence of product certification and registration, rights of registered brand, the protection SON can given to a registered branch and steps SON takes to enforcing quality compliance.
The release said the event is meant for every organisation and individual that represents a brand name in electronics or electricals in the country whether registered with SON or yet to be registered.
The event is put together by SASCOM, a media consultancy form and Amamartha, a registration consultancy company in conjunction with Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
It should be noted that SON has stepped up campaign against dumping and has embarked on an enlightenment campaign to educate importers on the need to make quality their major priority.
"Since the assumption of office by the present Director General of SON, Dr. John Akanya, the organisation has embarked on a dual strategy of enlightenment and enforcement which has seen many products submitted for quality certification unlike before.
The event which is scheduled for 22nd of September, 2004 the statement added is to be sponsored by companies that can go the extra mile to ensure that quality reigns in the country.
Those expected to address the gathering include the Director General of SON, the head, product registration, Head, enforcement Unit of SON.
