    MASSOB lists terms for ceasefire

    MALACHY UZENDU, Abuja

MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said it would give up the clamour for Biafra if the Federal Government gave Ndigbo three top positions.

The positions are Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Without these, the organisation said, outcry for a sovereign Biafra will be unceasing.

Chief Commissioner for Mobilisation for MASSOB, Abuja Circuit, Chief Ejim E. S. Okoro said the organisation would honour its promise once Ndigbo are appointed to the three sensitive positions.

In a statement issued yesterday and signed by Chief Okoro and another MASSOB commissioner, Prince R. K. James, they said the agitation for Biafra "was heightened by our conviction that 30 years after the civil war ended, the Igbo have not been fully re-integrated into the mainstream of the Nigerian state."

They alleged that the prejudice against Ndigbo have led to "the Igbo always subjected to playing the second fiddle role by other ethnic groups in the political circles."

They further claimed that it was the hatred against Ndigbo that made the ethnic group "vulnerable and ready objects of attack each time there is any form of crisis in any part of the country."
