    Falcons seek revenge against Sweden

    HUMPHREY NJOKU

NIGERIA will today at the Panthessaliko Stadium, Volos, engage 2003 world championship silver medallists, Sweden, in a crucial encounter at the on-going womens football event of Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

The Super Falcons, still relishing their Saturdays heart warming 1-0 lead advantage over Japan, would take their pound of flesh against the Scandinavian team that humiliated them 3-0 at the last World Cup in the United States of America (USA).

Sweden, who are worlds fourth, but humbled 1-0 in their Athens 2004 opener against Japan, need nothing short of outright victory against Nigeria to remain in contention of Group E qualification.

How far the Swedes would achieve that herculean task against the determined coach Ismaila Mabo-tutored African champions, who not only need at least a draw to book a quarter -finals ticket, but would want to cash in on their rising profile at Athens to erase their bad impression at their debut in Sydney 2000, will be seen at the end of the tie.

Should Sweden gain its first win today then three teams will be on top of the Group E table and qualifier will be determined on goal difference.

Nigeria, currently with three points, same as Japan, will be relying on the lethal foot of their one goal heroine, Vera Okolo, former African Footballer of the Year Mercy Akide, skipper Rita Nwadike, Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu and Maureen Madu to secure the next round ticket.

Keeper Precious Dede, who put in a first class performance against Japan, would be on duty.
