THE Owu
Traditional Council, Abeokuta, Ogun State said yesterday the festering row over
the selection of the new Olowu has gone beyond a "family affair," which
President Olusegun Obasanjo, a kinsman only last Friday described it.
Obasanjo had at the end of a
reconciliatory meeting with some Owu kingmakers and leaders at his Ota Farm
residence, told newsmen that the row was a "family affair" which would soon be
resolved amicably.
However, spokesmn of the Traditional
Council and the Otun of Owu, Chief Ola Yusuff said the feud was no longer
a family affair, assuring that the three kingmakers and others that were
arrested in connection with the disturbance of Owu Day, but later
released, would be charged to court, if they were indicted by police
investigations.
Yusuff who was briefing newsmen on the
arrest of the three kingmakers, said the fact that Obasanjo described the feud
as a family affair did not mean that the laws of the land and justice should not
take their full course on violators.
He stressed that since Obasanjo and the
entire Owu community were respecters of the laws of the land, it would be
fully invoked against the three kingmakers and other suspects if they were found
wanting.
"The question of family affair is
insignificant in the face of disturbance and destruction of property allegedly
perpetrated by a microscopic fraction of the Owu community," he said.
"The issue on ground has gone beyond the
scope of family affairs, we will make sure justice is done in the law court
regardless of whoever is indicted by police investigations," he added.
Addressing newsmen earlier, Chief Yusuff
in a speech titled; "The Arrest of Owu Warrant Chiefs: The Truth of the Matter,"
said the three kingmakers were not arrested" in connection with the inconclusive
meeting of Owu kingmakers:, adding that it had to do with their alleged
disturbance of Owu Day celebration.
Besides, Yusuff who was with the Bashorun, Chief
Rasheed Adewolu, at the briefing that took place outside the main entrance of
the Owu Palace, which was locked, said Obasanjo had no hands in their arrest,
contrary to media reports.
