2007: How S/East Can Win Presidency, By Adighije From Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Reso-urces Senator Chris Adighije (PDP, Abia), yesterday said the South East must first achieve political cohesion if they must make any meaningful progress in their quest for 2007 presidency. Adighije, who lamented the unfair representation of the South-East in the political equation of the country, noted that the geo-political zone has only 15 senators against 21 from the North West and 18 senators from each of the other four zones. According to him, the political cohesion of the South East "must be done as a prelude to the quest for Presidency. I'm convinced that even if we secure the Presidency at this time, such a person would have been so weak and compromised that the value of such Presidency to the Igbo nation may not be fully realised. "A case in point is the Senate Presidency, which has resided in the South-East for the last five years. The frequent changes and humiliation of Senate Presidents is symptomatic of the growing helplessness of the South-East zone in the political equation. Above all, how can there be any sustainable benefit in an atmosphere of inequality and injustice.
