FG Awards N2.3b Otta Water Contract From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Federal Government has awarded N2.3 billion contract to Reynolds Constru-ction Company (RCC) for the rehabilitation and expansion of Otta water supply scheme in Ogun State. Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Muktari Shagari, who signed the contract on behalf of the Federal Government said the project was born out of government's determination to make clean potable water, available to all Nigerians. Shagari said RCC was selected based on its competence and in line with the due process policy of the Federal Government. He urged the contractors to ensure they keep to the terms of agreement by executing the project on time and strictly on the required specification. He recalled that the Ministry had recently signed a N281 million contract for the rehabilitation and expansion of the old Abeokuta water supply scheme. Mr. Gilad Levi, who signed on behalf of RCC gave an assurance that the firm will live up to government's expectation by executing the contract under the stipulated time and approved specification. In a related development, the Federal Government has donated 500 hand pumps to Niger State as part of the Presidential Water Initiative to provide potable clean water to the rural populace of the country. A statement by Ibrahim Mohammed, Acting Chief Press Secretary to the Minister said the donations were presented to Niger State, Governor Abdulkadir Kure during a working visit by Shagari. The statement also said that the Federal Government would soon hand over its ownership and management of the Suwashi and Tungan Kawo Dams in Niger State to the state government.
