2007: Obasanjo'll Decide IBB's Fate - Olawepo Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), shares a lot of things in common with President Olusegun Obasanjo, which will ultimately affect the former's fate, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo has said. Speaking at the 63rd birthday ceremony of Babangida in Minna, Niger State on Tuesday, Olawepo said Obasanjo who is leading the country as Head of State for the second time, was Babangida's boss in the military and "elder brother", adding: Like the President, Babangida is passionate about the unity and indivisibility of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Olawepo who was the last speaker among numerous well-wishers at the ceremony said that the current economic initiative embarked upon by the present government also shares similarities with the economic liberalisation of Babangida's regime 12 years ago. "In a sense, the life and path of these patriots appear inter-twined by a mystical hand of fate. It has always been the story of one ushering the other. I know that whatever will be the political future of General Babangida (rtd) Chief Obasanjo will substantially affect it and God will be the ultimate decider". The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) added that Babangida has demonstrated an immeasurable degree of discipline when he (Babangida) expressed his willingness to obey the directives of the leadership of the PDP, stopping all campaigns for the 2007 general elections.
