Police Warn MASSOB Over Planned Rally From Christopher Isiguzo in Owerri Imo State Police Command has warned members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) against embarking on a planned mass rally on August 26, to commemorate what it called the Biafra Day. In a press release, the Command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Chike Nwabuwa in Owerri Wednesday, said the command reminds the public that it is only the Federal Republic of Nigeria that exists in Nigeria and that it is a treasonable felony for anybody to unlawfully declare any other republic within the country. While describing MASSOB as an illegal group, the command recalled that it had issued series of warning against participation in MASSOB activities. The police command therefore warned that it has not permitted any person or group of persons to hold any gathering, rally or procession in any part of the state, maintaining that they would not hesitate to descend heavily on and crush any "dissident group" causing a breach of the peace in the said. "Any person or group of persons caught being in possession of MASSOB flag, map, identity cards or souvenir of a any kind or dimension in Imo State will have himself to blame," the release stated. Parents are equally warned not to allow their children and wards to indulge in any unlawful activities in the name of a non-existent Biafran Republic, while traditional and religious leaders were also reminded that no personality will be spared anywhere MASSOB presence was perceived in the state.
