Govt Seeks End to Chieftaincy Crisis From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt A panel of inquiry has been constituted in Andoni Local Government of Rivers State, to find a permanent solution to the lingering and escalating chieftaincy tussle in Ataba community. The State Commissioner of Information, Honourable Magnus Ngei Abe, who disclosed this at a briefing in his office yesterday said government was highly worried about the crisis. THISDAY gathered that the dispute, which started in 1988 claimed no fewer than 50 lives with the highest figure recorded recently. Abe said Rivers State government, frowned at the tussle, noting that apart from the loss of lives, property worth millions of naira have been destroyed. Abe said the state Police Command has been mandated to go into the root of the causes of the crisis and make its findings known to government in no distance date. He charged the warring factions to eschew violence and learn how the Opobo Kingship dispute which lasted for more than 20 years was finally resolve without any killing and destruction of property.
