Elite Urged to Invest in Education From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Bauchi State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Muhammad Nadada Umar, has expressed worry over the progressive decline in the quality of education in the State urging the elite to invest more in education. Umar, who spoke at the graduation ceremony of the Special School, Kafin Madaki, was particularly worried about the state of the girl-child education in the state, and commended the state governor for his efforts towards ameliorating the situation. The SSG, represented by the Director of Evaluation and Policy Matters, Government House, Alhaji Awwal Aliyu said education is a tool for socio-economic and political development, and appealed to parents to encourage their children, particularly the girl-child to go to school. According to him, "we should draw attention to the neglect the education sector has been experiencing for a long time and chart a way forward for the sector". I am particularly worried about the girl-child education and I urge parents to encourage them to study even up to the tertiary level". He noted that the present administration has recorded giant strides in the sector, but, however, said since the burden of education cannot be left in the hands of government alone, a change of attitude on the part of the private sector was quite imperative. Umar said much energy should be geared towards encouraging science and technical education, adding that "efforts of giving qualitative education must be a collective one, where the people should see the need for investment in the sector".
