Imo Restates Commitment to UBE From Christopher Isiguzo in Owerri Imo State government has restated its commitment to the counterpart funding arrangement of the World bank Universal Basic Education (UBE) project in the state. This was made known by the state Deputy Governor, Chief Ebere Udeagu, when he received in his office, the Regional Leader (South) of the Department for International development and the World Bank UBE project, Mr Dennis Okoro. Udeagu expressed satisfaction with the bank's assistance to the state in the area of educational development, adding that education occupies a prime position in the state. He assured the team of government's full support to the project, as the state would not hesitate to contribute her share of the counterpart funds. He commended the enlightenment programme embarked upon b y the body, adding that their focus on infrastructure, training and capacity building was timely. Speaking earlier, the Regional team Leader, Mr Okoro, said he was on a familiarisation visit to the state. He noted that the World Bank project focused on rehabilitation of schools, provision of basic infrastructure, training and capacity building. He said there was the need to create a monitoring team to ensure proper utilisation of the funds, to achieve optimal results.
