Fire Guts NNPC Ibadan Depot From Ademola Adeyemo in Ibadan Activities were yesterday disrupted at the Ibadan depot of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as a morning fire gutted one of the loading bays, signaling disruption of supply to South- west states. However, an official of the Independent Petroleum Marketers (IPM), a branch of NUPENG who witnessed the incident told reporters that the fire was a minor one and that it was immediately put out. The incident disrupted the loading of fuel, as petroleum tankers which parked at the bay for supply were hurriedly driven out. THISDAY learnt that the incident, which was caused by a technical fault resulted in commotion, as depot officials and marketers ran helter-skelter for safety. However, attempt by reporters to reach the depot chief was met with a stiff resistance, as security agents at the main entrance refused them entry. The men, armed with dangerous weapons and charms, seized the identity cards of newsmen and chased them out, threatening to kill them should they come back to see the depot officials. The men said they were given strict instructions not to allow newsmen into the depot. Sources outside the depot told reporters that the incident occurred around 10.30 in the morning.
