Mamora Indicts FG on Healthcare Delivery Lagos By Agha Ibiam Contrary to statement by President Olusegun Oba-sanjo that the Federal Government will continue to give priority attention to primary healthcare, Senator Olurunn-imbe Mamora has noted with displeasure that the Federal Govern-ment is not doing enough to help the society. The Senator, who is also a committee member on health made the statement during the Awareness and Sensitisation Campaign on Renal Transplant Programme and launch of the Appeal Fund for Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Lagos. He frowned attitude of the Federal Government that makes pronuncement on improving the healthcare system without doing much. According to Mamora, "it is one thing for government to make pronouncement, and it is another thing for the policies to be translated into reality. And that is where I have my reservation. When you look at the budget and see what is allocated to the health sector, you will agree with me that it is not enough. We still need to do more and this is applicable to government at all levels." He pointed out that it behooves on the Federal Government to transform teaching hospitals which are supposed to be referral centers. He said if teaching hospitals are functioning effectively, the need for government officials going abroad for medical check-up would no longer arise.
