Face-Lift Approved Enugu From Emmanuel Ugwu in Enugu As part of efforts to renew Enugu, the state government has drawn up a massive road redevelopment programme, which would include the construction of a flyover to link Okpara Avenue with Ogui road. Commissioner for Informa-tion, Culture and Tourism, Chief Ayogu Eze, told newsmen in Enugu that the "massive redevelopment of roads within the Enugu metropolis" has already been approved by the state executive council. "The executive council considers the road redevelopment and city renewal projects a top priority in its strategy to drag in more businesses into Enugu," Eze said, citing the rapid banking activities from only five banks branches in 1999 to 45. According to the commissioner, the high brow Independent Layout would be linked to New Haven through Nza Street and Lagos Street in Ogui Layout. He said Achara Layout would also receive a facelift as three streets in the area - Achina, Afikpo and Ozalla - would be rehabilitated under the "immediate massive road repair work" to be completed by December.
