As at August 1st Vmobile had reached the one million and one hundred thousand (1.1m) active subscribers level mark on its network. It has services in 58 cities and over 2,500 communities spread across the six geo-political zones of the country.

21 Vodacom secondees, who have resigned from Vodacom South Africa to join Vmobile will help the company chart a new course for the business. The contract, which is for three years in the first instance, between Vmobile and Executive Management Consulting (EMC), paves the way for EMC to provide the company with management service and GSM technical expertise and training.

50 Nigerians have also been recruited into top management positions as Executive Heads of Divisions, in a strategic effort aimed at empowering Nigerians to be their best. In addition, over 100 more Nigerians are currently being recruited for Middle management and other levels.

Meanwhile, Vmobile has slashed the price of its pre-paid package, Veego SIM pack to N4980 for the month of August.

The new price is down from the N5,500 announced for the month of July.

The company is also offering free N500 airtime to every customer who buys the Veego SIM packs designated for the promo, which effectively brings the price to N4, 480.

This price is valid for the month of August 2004.

The Veego lines come pre-loaded with N500 free airtime. Customers who purchase the lines, therefore, do not have to worry about buying recharge cards before they start using their phones.

The new price offering is indicative of the company's quest to satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians, who are desirous of acquiring GSM lines.

In June, the company introduced the Bumpa Card, which is aimed at helping subscribers to drop their call charges to as low as N22 per minute.

The company also introduced a new recharge card, The Big One and two offers tagged Veego Reward Offer and Veego Airtime Bonus Offer which are designed to further help customers to enjoy the benefit of lower call tariffs.

The Big One is a N20,000 recharge card for Veego subscribers, which comes with free N2,000 or 10 per cent extra airtime and offers 360 days validity period.

With Veego Reward Offer, subscribers who spend up to N50,000 or more on airtime between June and November 2004 will get N5000 worth of free airtime. Customers' phones will be credited with the free airtime on December 7, 2004.

In the Veego Airtime Bonus Offer, subscribers who use up to N50,000 or more airtime in any month will get 10 per cent of whatever they spend as free airtime at the end of the particular month. This is a lifetime offer, which means that it is obtainable as long as the network remains in operation.

Customers can really optimise the value of these offers by combining the Bumpa Card with The Big One, Veego Reward Offer and Veego Airtime Bonus Offer, to drop effective call costs further down to less than N22 per minute. The Vmobile network offers customers numerous exciting benefits which include free Customer Care line (111), free voicemail retrieval, free account balance and validity enquiries, free emergency service including access to the police, Fire Service and Public Ambulance Service (122) and access to special medical and ambulance services (199) as well as off peak and weekend call rate of N30 per minute."
