Vmobile Maps Year-long Focus
By Okechukwu Kanu

Vmobile will focus efforts more on customer service, quality of service, distribution and coverage over the coming 12 months, its CEO, Willem Swart, has said.

With a view to achieving this, Vmobile has recruited 21 Vodacom expatriates from South Africa, including executive management and engineering specialists, for a period of three years. The company has also appointed more than 50 Nigerians in executive and senior management positions.

"Comprehensive development and training programmes are currently being implemented to support the process to establish a world-class management team," Swart said in a recent statement to the press.

He said the company underwent restructuring in April this year based on principles applied by the best telecommunication companies in the world.

According to him, Vmobile had expanded its network capacity and infrastructure by more than 50 per cent in the last 6 months and would follow an aggressive rollout strategy during the later stages of 2004 and in 2005. To improve its customer services the company would be upgrading the capacity of its call centres and would be establishing two new call centres before the end of 2004, he said.

"Vmobile is currently focusing on the improvement of all our customer services. To improve accessibility, Vmobile is establishing a chain of more than 100 company-owned shops," Swart said. He also said Vmobile had changed the Revenue Model it applied for its dealers. "The new model will not only increase the profit margin of the dealers, but will also share the cake with hundreds of smaller dealers all over Nigeria," he said. He said the new model would result in more effective Vmobile discounts and payments to dealers, with increases of up to 50 per cent envisaged.

The new Dealer Revenue Model will also encourage dealers to focus on the service to specific customers to retain their loyalty to and support for the Dealer and Vmobile, he said.

Vmobile has in the past few weeks launched various pre-paid products, including the Vcorporate Solutions.
