An end appeared not to be in sight in the
age-long boundary dispute between Delta and Ondo States over the ownership of
the oil-rich Tsekelewu community.
But there were indications of quick
resolution of the dispute betweenEdo and Delta States.
The Delta State Commissioner for
Information, Mr. Magnus Onyibe, gave the indication while speaking to newsmen
on Tuesday in Asaba after a meeting of the State Boundary Committee chaired by
the Acting Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue.
Onyibe said the National Boundary
Commission had contracted an independent surveyor to “do some work”
with regard to the dispute between Delta and Ondo states but “came up
with jaundiced view of the situation,” which he said was not acceptable
to Delta State because it was done without its consent and involvement.
“Delta State rejected it because
instead of working based on the situation on ground, it crated its own boundary
and Delta State rejected it and of course, National Boundary Commission upheld
the objection of Delta State.” He said a new study had to be carried out.
