Thirteen of the 1,319 batch
‘b’ 2003 corps members posted to Ebonyi State for the national
service will repeat the service year while seven others will serve various
extensions raging from two weeks to four months and will be on half stipends.

Co-ordinator in the state, Mr. Ahiede praised the government for its moral and
financial support to the scheme, adding that corps members have immensely
contributed to the socio-economic, educational and health development of
communities in the state.
Reading the president’s
address, the Acting Governor, Dr. Chigozie Ogbu, charged the corps members to
take advantage of the reform measures initiated by he government to venture
into self-employment rather than the engage in an endless search for white
collar job.
Commending the corps members for
their positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the country,
the president urged them to eschew all negative vices like cultism, deceit and
drug-addiction.
The government honoured nine corps
members for exemplary service in their communities. Three were offered
automatic employment into the state civil service.
The best employers of the corps
members went to the state Universal Basic Education Board and Ohazara Local
Government area.

perception of the state changed with time due to the hospitability of their
host communities
