Legal Obstacles to Housing to be Removed - Minister From Yinka Kolawole in Lokoja Minster of Housing and Urban Development, Chief Mobolaji Osomo said yesterday in Lokoja that all the legislations which had been impeding the provision of to large scale housing in the country would be either amended or repealed to make the new housing programme of the Federal Government operational. Speaking during her courtesy call on the state Governor Idris Ibrahim, the minister said these impediments are land use act, the mortgage banking association act, the National housing fund act, the federal mortgage bank of Nigeria act Nigeria insurance act, the insurance and the trustess investment act. She noted that all these acts are now before the National Assembly for serious consideration The minister who pointed out that all efforts are being made to strengthen Federal Government organizations that will play key roles in the efficient delivery of houses and enhanced performance and cites pledged a robust secondary mortgage financing mechanism based. Osomo stressed that poverty and unemployment, urban mobility and transportation, urban renewal and slum upgrading, urban infrastructure, provision and security would equally receive attention from the ministry. The minister who also identified Lokoja as a good base for housing development, urged the government work closely with her ministry in order to achieve the needed desire. She however promised to work the interested states in pursing the laudable project. Respondiing Idris pledged cooperation with the minisry and promise to work towards upliftment of the State to a mini mecca. He added that though lokoja had no master plan yet but all efforts his being geared toward a good master plan by the Ministry of Environment.
