Marketers May Sue PPMC over Funds, Allowance From Onwuka Nzeshi in Warri Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Delta State chapter, yesterday threatened to seek legal redress against the Pipeline and Products Marketing Companies (PPMC) over the twin policies of Petroleum Equalisation Fund and the National Transport Allowance in petroleum product distribution. Both policies are designed to cushion the effect of hauling petroleum products across long distances by making petroleum marketers pay different rates for the products depending on their proximity from the loading depot. Under the system, petroleum marketers from far flung locations such as Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and Maiduguri pay less for a given consignment of products than their counterparts in a place like Warri where the depot is located. But at an interaction with newsmen in Warri yesterday, IPMAN Chairman, Comrade Clement Obayendo, alleged that the administration of the two policies at PPMC depots were discriminatory and biased against petroleum marketers in the riverine areas of Delta State. According to Obayendo, petroleum marketers in Warri, who haul products across long and difficult terrain in the swamps and creeks, were not given due consideration in the implementation of these policies, adding that marketers in the state (Delta) were on the losing side in the game.
