Muslims Protest Pilgrims Board Composition From John Iwori in Yenagoa Muslims in Bayelsa State have protested the composition of the state Pilgrims Welfare Board recently constituted by the state government. Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha had in a statement a few weeks ago named a Port Harcourt-based clergy, Apostle Zilly Aggrey, the chairman of the board with 8 others as members. However, in a four-page statement issued in the state capital, Yenagoa, Muslims under the auspices of Bayelsa State Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said it was not only improper but also lopsided for Muslims to have only 2 members against their Christian counterparts, 7. According to the statement, the state government refusal to accede to the body demand for an autonomous pilgrim board was part of the agenda to deny Muslims their rights in the state. "Our religion, Islam is termed a minority religion in the state and has suffered much neglect over the years. It is no exaggeration that Muslims are denied their rights in almost all sections of Islamic requirements," the body noted.
