2007 : Group Opposes IBB, Others
By Bola Shittu
Yoruba Socio-cultural group, under the umbrella of the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Group (COSEG), has vowed to do everything within its power to scuttle the presidential ambition of former President, Ibrahim Babangida and Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Lagos, the Secretary General of the group, Mr. Wale Balogun, said as far as Yoruba, are concerned, Atiku Abubakar, former Military Administrator of Lagos, Buba Marwa and Babangida are not serious.
According to him, Yoruba shall deploy all arms in their arsenal to scuttle moves by Babangida, Atiku and Marwa as regards their presidential ambition in 2007
Towards this end, the group charged Afenifere leaders to commence the reconciliation of political groups in the South West so that the Yorubas would no longer speak in discordant tunes on issues of common interest.
Balogun said the group does not hope to start another grand design that may lead Yoruba on another political suicide mission in 2007, adding that the group would want to assert that any attempt to promote and impose IBB, Atiku or Marwa on the nation would be resisted.
On the alleged invasion of the Ogwugwu shrine in Okija, Anambra State, the group said it was rather disheartening that some political gladiators who found themselves in political office are making mockery of the age long tradition of Igbo people typified by the Okija shine
"Those jubilating over the desecration of the ancient shrine are ignorant doubt.
Though we find human sacrifice as despicable which is not the case in the present matter, the arrested priests of Okija are just pawns in the political chessboard and power play of Ngige, Uba and their masters in Aso rock villa" they added.
According to them, Okija known for righting social injustice and crime amongst mortals shared similarities with Aiyelala among the Ilajes and Oro cult still in practice all over Yorubaland.
