PDP NEC Okays Olowoporoku's Suspension
From Dipo Okunmuyide in Ado-Ekiti
National Executive Council (NEC) of the Peoples Demo-cratic Party (PDP) has approved suspension of Chief (Dr) Bode Olowoporoku, the senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District.
Chairman of the party in Ekiti State, Mr Ropo Adesanya, in a chat with reporters in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said the suspension was the first leg of disciplinary action to be taken against the senator, saying the next line of action is to expel him from the party.
According to Adesanya, if Olowoporoku fails to absolve himself of the allegations against him or show remorse, the party will not hesitate to commence the process of his recall from the senate, because he has no locus standi to remain in the Senate.
"Olowoporoku is anti-PDP and our party is a disciplined party. You can imagine a senator under our party going to court to stand as a witness against the party and at the same time engage himself in abusing our governor on the pages of newspaper," he said.
The chairman explained how the party in the state asked Olowoporoku to appear before a disciplinary committee which he refused after which the efforts of the zonal vice chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George in calling the recalcitrant senator to order proved abortive.
Mr Adesanya seized the opportunity to inform journalists about the intending visit of President Olusegun Obasanjo to Ekiti State in October, adding that the national Chairman of the party, Chief Audu Ogbeh is also billed to visit the state before the presidential visit.
The PDP chairman who addressed party leaders at the secretariat shortly before the media chat warned members against identifying with any of the groups campaigning for any of the three presidential aspirants in the party.
He said members should wait for the directive of President Obasanjo on who to support for the 2007 presidential election, saying the major concern of the party should be the success of the reforms being put in place by the Federal Government.
He disclosed that the party has forwarded names of 32 nominees for federal boards and parastatal appointments and warned the nominees against any anti-party activities and ensure that they are good ambassadors of the state.
