... As Galadima Charges Falcons to Make Africa Proud
Chairman of Nigeria Football Association NFA Ibrahim Galadima yesterday charged the national female team the Falcons to go all the way in making Africa proud by beating Germany in one of the quarter final matches to be decided in Petras, Athens today. Galadima told THISDAYsports in an interview last night that the only way the team will justify their rating in Africa was to beat Germany in today's match. He said: "We have to give God the glory that we reached this stage which you of course know is our best performance at the Olympics games."
Galadima said that Africans are proud of their performance so far in the Olympics female football event adding "there is every need for the girls to remain focused and aim for a win against the Germans."
He said he was not worried about the German opposition saying 'they don't pose any serious threat against us'. "We have played against them before, and I know the Falcons know so much about them. We can hold them and even go beyond them in the match."
Galadima said he looked forward to a good match, which he predicted in favour of Nigeria. "By the grace of God, we will overcome the German opposition and move on to push for a medal in the event. That will be most satisfying."
In like manner Delta State Commissioner for Sports Solomon Ogba predicted a tough match for the team but said they could overcome the German challenge by curtailing them in the midfield and preventing them from taking set pieces. His words "We played the Germans in a friendly in their country before the games and we all saw what happened. The Germans are not invisible. They are beatable but the thing is that we have to plan well and come out with a pattern that will not allow them to play their own game. We have to start attacking them from the on set and we equally have to do everything to checkmate them from taking set pieces around our box. The coach should equally ask them to shoot as often as possible. The match is going to be tight but with good co-ordination the Falcons will be able to contain them."
