North Urged to Participate in Port Reform Programme

A clarion call has gone out to businessmen from the northern part of the country to embracc the on-going Federal Government's port reform programme in order to maxinize the benefits that will accrue from the exercise.

Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Alhaji Waisu Yaro who made thc call while speaking during a courtcsy call to the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa at the Government House urged ports users and stakeholders alike from the area to synergise efforts which will aid them partake meaningfully in the reform process.

Alhaji Yaro appealed to the people to reject the negative views making rounds nationwide about the reforms programme adding that it was only the Federal Government's effort at ensuring that living standards of the people through a more efficient operations at the nation's seaports.

Earlier at a workshop on fraud prevention and control for top management of thc NPA which was aimed ad sensitizing employees ol authority `on the incidents of corruption and fraud, create awareness and reduce of not eradicate their effects.

"As you are aware, management is making efforts to reduce corruption in the organisation and it is part of the efforts of the Federal Government to reform the civil scrvice", hc noted.

He added that the reforms were being made to make the society a better place.

Alhaji Yaro, who served as a commissioner in the state over a decade ago, lauded the governor for his people oriented programme in the state.

In his rcmarks the governor, Alhaji Balarawa appealed to the Executive

Director to ensure that he leaves a good track record in public service.

He said Sokoto was one of the most peaceful states in the country and thanked Alhaji Yaro for beinging the training programme to the State.

He was positive it would rub off on the people of the state and ultimately the natiuon as a whole.
