Global Bank Promotes AGM, 90 Others
Global Bank Plc has promoted 91 staff in line with its policy of rewarding excellence and outstanding performance. Managing Oirector of the bank, Mr. Yinka Obalade, unveiled the list of promoted staff while addressing the staff. He said the bank would continue to reward staff who excel in their operational areas, adding that staff welfare remains a top priority of the bank.
Among those promoted is Mr. Ademola Alabi, AGM (Branch Coordination Division) who now becomes a Deputy General Manager. Also promoted is Mr. Tunde Onasanya, Head of Audit, who is now a Senior Manager, while Messrs Adekunle Sule and Fatai Salami were elevated to the position of Manager. Mrs Rose Ibanga also joined the new rank.
Other beneficiaries including Messrs Dayo Babaranti, Akorede Badmus and Muyiwa Badmus as well as Mrs. Temitayo Awotodunbo and Folake Akinghade rose to the Deputy Manager rank.
Also promoted were Senior Executive Assistants, Executive Assistants, Confidential Secretaries, Caterers, Drivers and Security men among others.
Mr Alabi, the new Deputy General Manager, is a graduate of the University of Lagos where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree (Finance and Banking). He later received an M. Sc Degree in Banking & Finance from the University of Ibadan. He is also a graduate of the Lagos Business School/Pan-African University where he completed his Advanced Management Programme (AMP) in 2001. His experience in banking began in 1984 as a Corper with the Central Bank of Nigeria from where he joined Allied Bank of Nigeria in 1985 as an officer.
Having served in different capacities at Lagos Central, Makurdi, Jos, Allen Avenue and Matori branches as well as Head Office between 1985 and 1992, Mr Alabi rose to the position of Assistant Manager in the bank.
He later joined Trans International Bank Plc in 1992 as Deputy Manager and held various positions including Deputy Manager, Agodi branch (19921993) and Manager/ Senior Manager, Ibadan main branch at various times. He also served as Senior Manager, Lagos main branch with additional responsibility to oversee Treasury and Lagos cash centres. He won the best manager award for the year 1999 and was promoted Principal Manager in year 2000.
He joined Global Bank Plc in year 2000 as Principal Manager and was pioneer Head of Retail Banking Division. He was promoted Assistant General Manager in September 2001 with additional responsibility to supervise the newly created Consumer Banking Unit. Following a restructuring exercise, he was re-assigned Head, Business Development and Strategy Division and later Head, Branch Coordination Division which oversees all the branches of the bank.
Mr Alabi, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management has attended many courses both locally and abroad, including the famous International Banking Summer School, Edinburgh, Scotland. He is also a member of several clubs such as Ikoyi Club and Ibadan Recreational Club. His hobbies include reading and singing. He is married with children.
On his part, Mr. Onasanya is an Accountancy Graduate of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
Between 1982 and 1991 he was with Total Nigeria Plc working in various departments within the Finance 8~ Accounts Division, including Foreign Fxchange, Treasury and General Accounts.
In 1989 he was promoted Aviation Accountant and transferred to head the Accounts Section of the Aviation Operations of Total Nigeria Plc.
He left Total Nigeria Plc in 1992 to Tropics Finance & Investment Company as an Assistant Manager and Head, Finance & Administration. Whilst in Tropics, he rose to the position of Senior Manager, serving in various capacities with responsibility for co-ordinating various aspects of the operations of Tropics Finance and Tropics Securities Limited.
In 1999 he moved to Global Bank Plc as Head of Global Investment & Securities Limited. He actively traded as a stockhroker on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
In 2000 he moved to the Financial Control Department of the bank as Head, Financial Control. He was promoted to Manager grade in 2001 and appointed the Pioneer Branch Manager for Port Harcourt Branch, the bank's first branch in the eastern region.
In January 2004 he moved back to Head-Office to Head the Audit & Inspection Department of the Bank as the Chief Inspector, the position he still holds.
He has attended numerous courses including those in Relationship Management, Advanced Credit & Risk Management, and Senior Management.
Mr. Onasanya is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an Authorised Dealing Clerk of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, a member of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), and a graduate of the Lagos Business School (LBS) Senior Management Programme. He is happily married with children.
Mr. Salami received an MBA degree from the Lagos State University as well as a Bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Ibadan. He also received a Professional Diploma in Marketing and Certificate in Marketing from The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.
He started his banking career in 1991 as an Officer in the Treasury Department of Access Bank Nigeria Plc where his duties included cash management, preparation of daily liquidity positions, and raising entries for treasury operations.
He became the Personal Assistant to the Managing Director/ CEO, and was subsequently appointed Secretary of the Annual Budget Committee, a post he held from 1993 to 1996.
Mr. Salami rose to the position of Head, Trade Finance Unit in September 1993 and was again elevated to Head, Business Development Unit, Apapa Branch in May 1997. In this capacity, he was in charge of confirming LPOs and domiciliation of payments. He designed logistics/flow for import transactions and analysed customers' financial statements and profitability transactions. He equally followed up on processing of Form M and establishment of Letters of Credit among other duties.
Aside from relief duties as Operations Manager for Ikeja and Broad Street branches as well as Branch Manager for Osogbo Branch, Mr. Salami set up the Customs Revenue Collection Unit and was redeployed in July 1999 as Operations Manager for Apapa Branch. His duties included cheque authorisation, rendition of statutory returns to the regulatory authorities, and coordination of branch operational activities.
He joined Global Bank Plc in Year 2000 as Head of Operations, Apapa Branch. He has had stints heading the Collections and International Transfers units, and is currently Head, Network Operations Department. In this capacity, he coordinates central cash management, central clearing and branch monitoring. He liaises with local correspondent banks on domestic banking services and also evaluates branch operations bankwide.
A Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), Mr. Salami has attended several banking courses including the Credit Risk Management and Treasury Management programmes.
Mr. Sule commenced his banking career in 1990 as a Programmer/ Graduate Trainee with Wema Bank Plc before moving to Citi Trust Merchant Bank Limited as Assistant Banking Officer where he was involved in report structuring and training of staff on computer appreciation. He was promoted to the rank of Banking Officer in September 1992, handling software development including the design of an Integrated Dealing System as well as an Accounting package.
Mr. Sule joined Union Merchant Bank Limited in 1995 as Deputy Head of Systems. He was responsible for managing IBM AS/400 Machine for running the Kapiti Equation banking software as well as staff training. In February 2001, Mr. Sule j oined Global Bank Plc as Deputy Head of Information Technology Department. He was responsible for running the bank's data processing unit and providing online support to all branches. He further provided software development initiatives while formulating ICT strategies for bankwide deployment. Two years later, he was deployed to set up the Systems Audit Department. In this capacity Mr. Sule is responsible for ensuring database security and compliance with security standards.
A member of the Computer Association of Nigeria, Mr. Sule received both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science from the University of Lagos. He has attended several courses on Computer Audit Control and Security Training as well as the IBM AS/400 System Administration/Control at the IBM Training Centre, New York and IBM System Security in IBM Learning Centre, Philadelphia.
