Reputable local and international contractors are to bid for the refurbishment of the former Ikoyi Hotel now to be known as Ikoyi Sun Hotel.
The new owners of the hotel, Beta Consortium, said that they intend to turn it into the leading hotel of Lagos in terms of business and leisure tourism.
The Managing Director of Beta Consortium, Mr. Ernest Oji said that they are looking for the best hands and the criteria include quality of work and ability to execute such projects.
The first phase of a multi-purpose development will include apartments, an office block and a shopping mall which will include six cinemas.
It will not be surprising to get an architectural masterpiece since it holds the prestigious and famous brand name of Southern Sun International
Ikoyi Sun Hotel became part of Southern Sun international chain following a long term management contract with Beta Consortium who owns the hotel.
Beta Consortium was the successful bidder in the tender process in 2002 after 70 year-old Ikoyi Hotel under Nigeria Hotels was privatised. The firm will be responsible for the overall development, including the construction of Ikoyi Mall and two hotels on the site of the old Ikoyi Hotel. Construction is scheduled to begin shortly.
The Beta Consortium was set up as a special purpose vehicle for the development of the historic Ikoyi and is owned by a variety of leading business enterprises in the country, including First Atlantic Asset Management, a subsidiary of First Atlantic Bank and the Niger Insurance Corporation.
The Executive Chairman of Southern Sun, Ron Stringfellow who was in Nigeria to sign the management and technical assistance agreements recently said that Ikoyi Sun will be designed with you in mind.
"It will offer 24-hour service so that it will offer a superior level of comfort, coupled with a full range of servics and facilities for the uipscale business and leisure travellers".
Stringfellow explained that the properties will recognise that when a visitor is away from home on business or leissure trip, he will need full spectrum of services to conduct his business affairs whatever time.
Southern Sun already operates 82 hotels in seven African countries including South Africa and the Seychelles and has over 13,000 rooms in its portfolio.
