Private Operator to Manage Bar Beach The nation's premier beach, Bar Beach is now under a new management as Lagos State government is determined to enhance public/private sector partnership as well as ensure tourists use the beach without molestation. THISDAY gathered that Lagos State tourism outfit, Waterfronts and Tourism Development Corporation (LSWTDC) handed over the management of the beach to a Lagos-based 7-Star Travel and Tourism Limited. Just last week bulldozers were used by officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), a Lagos State government outfit, to demolish make-shift structures at the beach on the orders of Lagos State government. The Managing Director of LSWTDC, Prince Adesegun Oniru who supervised the demotion exercise stated that the exercise was done to sanitise the beach so that it will return to its past glory. Oniru explained that there is no way the beach can offer Nigerians and holidaymmakers opportunity to enjoy themselves with the presence of hoodlums and women of easy virtue who patronise the traders in their huts. Majority of the traders, he said, were illegal occupants whose presence can no longer be tolerated. Meanwhile, the traders and tourism operators whose shops were demolished, are fighting back under their trade association Eko Beaches Tourism Promoters.
