Amachree Tasks Osun-Osogbo Organisers By Justina Okpanku Osun-Oshogbo Festival, Nigeria's main cultural product for August took place penultimate Friday. Expectedly, it was a must-see event as thousands of art and cultural lovers gathered at the Osun Grove, a shrine located in a reserved area in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital. It was a successful event from the increasingly business patronage. Apart from the regular promoters like Aromatic Schnapps and Cola Cola, MTN made a successful inroad into that market. But people were uncomfortable due to space constraint as the organisers may have underestimated attendance while planning this year's edition. Tourists, including international visitors didn't have ample space to experience the beauty of the festival due to what a colleague described as a "maddening crowd." "People were everywhere, people were packed like crayfish, millions of people from Oshogbo, Ibadan everywhere. In fact, if you lift your hand up, you will be touching somebody else. Even the Kabiyesi, the Otaoja of Oshogbo and the Governor of the state were not given space; they were pushed by the crowd. But the police rescued them," he said. The President of the Centre for the Promotion of Arts and Culture (CEPTAC), Alabo Mike Amachree, who attended the Osun-Oshogbo festival, praised the Governor of Osun State, Chief Olagusoye Oyinola for promoting the culture of the Osun people and by implication empowering his people economically. Alabo Amachree however advised the organisers of the event to make adequate preparation for ample space to ensure vantage viewing. " They have to cut down some of the trees at the grove and make a good r-eception or viewing area. They have to make people comfortable so that they will come back," he said.
