Buhari, Masari others eulogise Irojah
Presidential candidate of
the All Nigeria Peoples
Party (ANPP), General Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasir el-Rufai, and the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Haladu Hananiya, yesterday showered encom-iums on late Durosinmi Irojah, describing his death as an irreparable loss.
The four functionaries in separate statements commiserated with Media Trust and the family of the deceased, who passed on last Friday in Abuja at 56.
Buhari, who described Mr. Irojah as “one of the best professional journalists “ Nigeria ever had, regretted that death came when the services of competent hands were most needed.
“It is sad that this loss is coming at this point of our national existence when the services of such competent hands will be needed more than ever before.”
The Speaker on his part, in a statement signed by his print media assistant, Leon Usigbe, said the late journa-list was a “thorough-breed professional who had contri-buted his best to uplift the practice of journalism in the country.”
In his condolence mes-sage signed by his chief press secretary, Kingsley Agha, el-Rufai also praised Mr Irojah, saying he was an “intelligent, dedicated and astute journalist whose sense of social responsibility and balance reports remains unequalled. He will be greatly missed by all of us.”
Hananiya also eulogised the deputy editor, and said his death was a tragic loss to the company and a setback to the journalism profession as well as the nation.
“Late Mr Irojah has without doubt left indelible marks in his chosen profession,” former FRSC boss said, adding that he was a key figure in Daily Trust’s steady rise to prominence.
Also yesterday, the Eritrean ambassador to Nigeria, Daniel Yohammes, payed a condolence visit to Media Trust head office in Abuja and said the embassy was saddened by the death of Mr. Irojah.
Buhari, Masari, el-Rufai, Hananiya and Yohammes prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and fortitude urged and Media Trust to bear the loss.
