Obasanjo explains N2.5bn emergency fund President Olusegun Obasanjo has explained that the N2.5 billion contingency approved by the National Assembly for emergency relief in the country was not meant for Plateau State alone. Chief Obasanjo who stated this in Jos disclosed that half a billion naira has been released to the state. He described the imposition of a state of emergency in Plateau as one of the toughest decisions he had taken in the last five years, but noted that three months into the emergency rule, it has become obvious that the decision was in the best interest of the people of the state, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. The president explained that the state administrator, General Chris Alli (rtd), has achieved a lot in recons-truction and consolidation of peace and urged the people of the state to join hands with the administrator to ensure sustainable peace in the state. Earlier, the administrator had attributed the return of calm to Plateau, to the willin-gness of the people of the state to achieve peace as well as the confidence building measures put in place by the government.     TO NEXT NEWS PAGE...
