TEARS
flowed freely in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital last Thursday, when a night guard
who is said to be a fresh university graduate, was killed by armed robbers.
Fresh mourning engulfed the
ancient city yesterday following a motor accident during which seven persons
lost their lives.
The young graduate, identified
simply as Ladipo, was killed at about 4.00am at Agbowo-Irepo area. It was
gathered that the victim graduated from one of the federal universities about
two years ago.
He was said to have taken the job
of night guard to keep body and soul together when he could not secure better
employment befitting a university graduate.
It was learnt that the bandits
numbering about 11, invaded his duty post and tied him and another night guard
before they raided the residents.
The other night guard was said to
have escaped and informed the police at a nearby police station of the incident.
However, Ladipo was found dead
when the police arrived the scene, while the bandits escaped with their loot.

investigating the incident.
The motor accident reportedly
occurred at Oremeji area of Ibadan, along the Lagos-Iwo expressway, at about
1.40pm.
The tragedy involved a commercial
bus marked XS459KJA and a trailer XH524KRD.
It was learnt that the bus which
was coming from Apata area, had stopped at the roadside to drop off a passenger
and suddenly veered back onto the highway when the driver apparently discovered
that where he parked was not very convenient.
As he hit the highway again, the
driver, however ran into oncoming trailer which was moving at high speed, and
later ended up in a nearby ditch killing seven of the passengers.
