NNEWI—PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) chairman candidates in the forth-coming Local Government election in Anambra State have unanimously asked Governor Chris Ngige to expedite action in conducting the much-awaited election.
Speaking in separate interview with Vanguard, Co-ordinator of all the PDP chairmanship candidates for the election and Onitsha North Local Government candidate, Prince Dr. Emeka Eze, Mr. Izu Nwankwo, Orumba South Local Government, Prince John Emeka, Anambra West, Chief Patrick Uddoh, Idemili North, Chief Bertram Ifeanyi Dim, Onitsha South, Chief Robert Ezeadigo, Aguata Local Government, Mr. Chizo Obidigwe, Ayamelum Local Government, Mr. Chukwudi Umeh Abah, Orumba North and Chief George Ibechendu, Anaocha Local Government Area, urged the governor to conduct the election without further delay, as the people at the grassroot are loosing much for non-conduct of the election, adding that he (Ngige) should not be afraid of anything as they will all join hands together in addressing the problems of the Local governments, which according to them have suffered gross underdevelopment.
According to the chairmanship candidate “any body who is opposing the immediate conduct of the local government election is anti-democratic , enemy of the country and the people at the grass root.” The chairmanship candidate noted that for there to be progress and meaningful development in the local governments, the existing Transition Committee system set up by the state government should be abolished to make way for elected government that will have powers to embark on projects that will impact on the people at the grass root.
Reacting to the list of the candidates short listed, Nwankwo said “the publication of the list by the national working committee of PDP, I feel that there is still hope for the country and they are leaders who respects the principle of justice and equity.”
Prince Eze in his reaction said “PDP has demonstrated once again that it is the leading party in Africa and committed to enthroning democracy at the grass root and doing away with unlawful transition care taker committee system at the grass root.
Prince Emeka in his own reaction said, the publication of the list has solved the problem of double candidacy that caused problem in the past national and state assemblies elections.” While Chief Uddoh said “it shows once again that God is in control and PDP National Leadership is focused. “We the party loyalists are determined to make sure that PDP remains strong in our various local governments.”
Short listed chairmanship candidate for Onitsha South, Chief Dim said “with the list now released, election for the local government council cannot be hindered again and as long as election is not held in the local government level, the grass root people stands to loose.”
Obidigwe, Abah, Ibechendu and Ezeadigo in their reactions see the list as triumph of justice, fair play and honesty over attempted deprivation of committed party members by those who have done nothing for the progress and victory of the party in the state.
