AD Reps disown Akinfenwa The Alliance for Democracy (AD), caucus in the House of Representatives has rejected the purported endorsement of the Mojisola Akinfenwa-led faction by the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere. The caucus, in a statement signed by its leader, Mr. Wummi Bewaji, said the endorsement was an after-thought, coming when a truce was brokered between the party’s two factions and unity conve-ntion was being planned. Afenifere was reported to have thrown its weight behind the Akinfenwa-group, which has been engaged in a battle for recognition with the Bisi Akande led faction. But Bewaji said the purported endorsement, said to have been made at a meeting in Akure, Ondo State, was an “A-Qaeda network” action, saying the lawmakers would not recognise it. “That the purported action is coming at a time when a successful truce was brokered between the Lagos group and the Abuja group of the factionalised National Convention Committee (NCC) leading to the adoption of a programme of action for the convening of a convention of National Unity also speaks volumes of the malicious intention of the Akure musketeers,” the statement said. Bewaji also called on all AD faithfuls to ignore “all voices of distraction and indecent harassment of returning amala democracts and concentrate on the ongoing efforts aimed at rebuilding and repositioning the party for greater challenges ahead.” TO NEXT NEWS PAGE ...
