Masari Supports Sharing Oil Windfall From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi As the debate on how to share the excess crude oil revenue continues to raise dust across the country, Speaker, House of Represen -tatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has expressed support for sharing of the money accruing from the oil windfalls, saying it will help raise the socio-economic status of Nigerians. The speaker was fielding questions from newsmen in Bauchi shortly after declaring the House of Representatives' 2004 retreat in closed. He also said that sharing the excess funds will enable states and local governments to embark on developmental projects which will raise the living of the citizenry. Masari however maintained that the same revenue sharing formula from the federation Account should be used for the excess windfall, adding that "the calls by some governors and other well-meaning Nigerians to the federal government to share the excess crude oil money should be looked into with a view to accepting the suggestion for the good of Nigerians". On budget implementation, the speaker warned against the foot-dragging attitude of the Executive in implementing the country's budget, saying that henceforth, the National Assembly would use its powers of appropriation judiciously. He vowed not to take it lightly with the Obasanjo administration if it refuses as the executive arm to implement the 2005 budget as approved, saying the house would no longer tolerate distortion in the country.
