US Lawmaker Seeks Closer US-Nigeria Ties From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja A member of the United States Congress, Mrs. Carolyn Kilpatrick has called for greater collaboration between the United States and Nigeria. Kilpatrick, who is also a member of the US Congress' Committee on Foreign Relations, said such collaborations will see Nigeria benefiting from a $20 billion budget, which is used to fund first projects around the world particularly in Africa for such areas as health, housing, education, military assistance among others. The congresswoman disclosed this at the opening session of Africa World Expo United States Trade Mission to Nigeria under the aegis of Temple Trust Nigeria Limited, saying her assignment in the country is to identify such projects. She noted that this year's forum is unique since the trade mission commenced about a decade because it anchored on building partnerships, economic basis for electricity, power, water, clean environment, agriculture and training people on both sides of the Atlantic to set up industries that will change lives. "One thing about America is that we have all been trained in all kinds of things and we are here, all 20 of us to train Nigerians, to partner to grow food, build water, electric plant, clean the environment etc. Democracies are growing and Global Trade is expanding on the African Continent. Events like the African World Expo Trade Mission enhances, equal trade and business partnerships between our nation and Sub Saharan Africa. As we are here, we say it is time to come together and build our own companies, structure our communities and provide resources to maintain our continent."
