Community Writes INEC, Seeks Lawmaker's Recall From Chuks Okocha in Abuja People of Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency of Abia State have written the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying the commission of their intention to recall their representative at the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinonyerem Macebuh. The notice was to fulfil the constitutional requirement for the recall. INEC Director of Public Affairs, Steve Osemeke, yesterday issued a statement acknowledging the receipt of the recall notice. It said a copy of the petition has already been forwarded to Macebuh. The petitioners, according to Osemeke, claimed they represented more than one half of the registered voters in the constituency. The petitioners said the recall process was based on the lack of confidence in the ability of Macebuh to represent them at the House. Osemeke told THISDAY that the commission will carry out verification of the signatures contained in the petition before it will carry out the referendum as spelt out in the constitution. INEC statement quoted section 69 of the Constitution dealing with recall process, which stipulated that "A member of the Senate or the House of Representatives may be recalled if; There is presented to the Chairman of INEC a petition on that behalf signed by more than one half of the person registered to vote in that member's constituency alleging their loss of confidence in that member.
