Kuje Land Allocations for Review From Andy Ekugo in Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may change land allocations already issued out in Kuje Local Council. The proposed review is intended to accommodate the new master plan being put together for the area. FCT minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai dropped the hint yesterday during an unscheduled visit to Kuje to inspect road projects. He stated that the master plan for Kuje was being re-done to reflect the new status of the council as one of the major satellite towns for the FCT. The minister explained that the roads were abandoned in 2001 due to debts owed contractors. The revitalization of the road construction according to the formed part of primary infrastructure being put in place in the new layout of Kuje because of its new status as a major satellite town for the FCT. "Kuje road started in 2000 and were abandoned because we were not paying the contractors. We re-started them last year and there is some progress because these are all new layout but no infrastructures. As part of efforts to make Kuje one of the major satellite towns, we need roads and infrastructures that go with them," the minister said. When asked what happens to the allocated plots of land in the new layout, the minister stated, "I think, knowing my people, they have allocated all the land. I haven't checked but the master plan of Kuje is being done all over again even if allocations have been done we need to change them, we will change them". During the tour, el-Rufai urged the contractors handling the roads to expedite action in order to complete the project on schedule.
