FG Okays Mass Publication of Law Books From Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja Federal Government has endorsed a new private initiative for the publication of the laws of the federation in association with the federal ministry of Justice. President Olusegun Obasanjo called for mass production of Law books in order to make them affordable to lawyers and other users. Obasanjo had during the brief ceremony given his blessings to the new private partnership Initiative exhuming confidence that such collaboration would benefit Nigerian lawyers. He noted that "books form the heart and bloodstream of legal activity in any human organisation," adding that laws are essential for the growth of democracy in the country. The publication contains two formats-loose leaflets and CD rom. It will be the first time a compilation of the country's law will be indexed in electronic form. The initiative is driven by Lexis Nexis Butterworths, Dublin, South Africa, as part of Mac-Arthur Foundation who are the publishers, while Odade Investment limited, is the marketer and the Justice Ministry would be the author. The Initiative is expected to among other things update the 1990 edition of the law books and would include new statutes in the oil and gas sector, property, and amendments to existing laws in other departments of the country.
