PR Practitioners Urged to Adhere to Ethics From Onwuka Nzeshi in Warri Public Relations practitioners across the country have been urged to adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession in the management of information, image and reputation of their respective organisations and governments at various levels in order to remain relevant in the polity. Newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Delta State Chapter, Mr. Chris Yinka Kachikwu gave advice at the weekend during the inauguration of the state executive committee of the institute. Kachikwu, Deputy Director of Public Affairs with the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Effurun described public relations as a recognised and respected profession whose members must be mindful of the serious responsibilities entrusted into their hands. He urged members of the NIPR in the state to close ranks and forge a common front if they must make the desired impact on the various organisations and establishments they represent. "We have enormous responsibilities that must be executed in an ethical manner hence we must all be guided by Decree 16 of Nov. 1990 and the regulating code of conduct of the profession.", Kachikwu's ascension came on the strength of an election held last April. Among practitioners elected into the executive committee were Mr. Joel Okandeji (Vice Chairman) and Mr. Micheal Adande (Secretary) both of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). Others are Oseloka Zikora ( Financial Secretary) of the Petroleum Training Institute, Christine Aluyi (Treasurer) of The Pointer Newspapers, Orezi Esievo (Assistant Secretary) of SPDC and Chief E.C.
