Youths Oppose Use of Public Funds for Reception From Jide Orintunsin in Minna Youths in four local government areas of Niger State have uncovered plans by their councils to cash-in on the state's withdrawal from the management of the state local government joint account by illegally using N20 million to organise receptions for some politicians. The youths under the aegis of Suleja Youth Movement on Monday in Minna alleged that officials of Abukwaka, Gurara, Tafa and Suleja councils have concluded plans to organise a reception for politicians with funds mobilised from the councils. THISDAY gathered that elected members of National and State Assemblies, commissioners and special advisers from the area are selected to be honoured by the organisers. According to the leader of the movement, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, the affected councils are to mobilise N5 million each toward the realisation of the reception, a move which the youths are opposed to. Ibrahim said that the reception is slated for the end of September, when officials will have a free hand to manage council funds, following the withdrawal of the state from the management of the state-local government joint account.
