'Maintain Cocoa Production Data' Osun From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo Stakeholders in the cocoa sector nationwide have been called upon to imbibe the culture of maintaining accurate data on cocoa so as to improve production. This was contained in a communique issued by the Cocoa Association of Nigeria (CAN) after a two-day conference held in Osogbo. According to the association, "the gesture would also assist cocoa producing-states to evolve a sustainable database for Nigerian cocoa. The communique, which was signed by the CAN president, Dr Halima Iyama and the national general secretary, Mr Monyo Ojong, said the availability of accurate data could help stakeholders calculate and predict future aspects of cocoa economy through monitoring of the performance and management of the sector. The association said there was urgent need for government to set up a technical committee, charged with the responsibility of establishing quarterly and annual statistics data to boost the production of the cash crop. The association said periodic enlightenment of farmers was crucial to the improvement of cocoa production.
